Commissioner for Enlargement Kos, during a meeting of the Economic and Social Committee in Brussels, once again called on North Macedonia to implement the constitutional changes, but also to build trust with all EU members.
She emphasized that the country was one of the three frontrunners in implementing the reform agenda, but noted that without the constitutional changes, that progress couldn’t be translated into the momentum regarding enlargement.
Meanwhile, eight EU members, through a non-paper, have asked for a more concrete and predictable accession process for candidate countries, with clearly defined rules and a timeframe for their membership. In the document, backed by Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia, it is emphasized, inter alia, that the process must remain merit-based.
