President Siljanovska Davkova believes that the country’s European integration process should be based on fulfilling the Copenhagen criteria, rather than resolving historical issues which, according to her, are not part of the EU’s fundamental values and identity principles.
As she said in an interview with MIA, the country should be left to “Europeanize along the way, to become compatible with what the Copenhagen criteria require” without wasting time on solving historical issues because they are excluded from the identity and constitutive acts of the EU.
Regarding her messages sent from Bulgaria, during the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit, the President stressed that enlargement had to be based on European values and the Copenhagen criteria.
