The procedure to pass the Equitable Representation Bill will see the use of the so-called small Badinter majority mechanism, i.e., a majority of the present MPs from non-majority communities in the hall during the vote will be required. That decision was made at Thursday’s session of the Intercommunity Relations Committee with 11 votes in favor and two against.

European Front and Albanian League MPs fiercely criticized the decision, saying that the law should be passed by using the so-called large Badinter mechanism, i.e., a majority of the total number of MPs representing non-majority communities. However, their proposal was rejected.

VLEN’s representatives said the Law on the Use of Languages, too, had been passed by using the small Badinter mechanism, which hadn’t bothered anyone. They called on all MPs to support the law.
