Implementation of the Treaty with Bulgaria, continuation of the work of the Commission on History, and confirmation that constitutional changes remain the main condition for opening the first negotiating cluster are some of the most sensitive messages in the compromise amendments of the EP’s draft report, which Kanal 5 has obtained.
What’s significant, according to the TV station, is that the amendment by Rapporteur Waitz, which requests clarification on whether the 2nd Protocol between North Macedonia and Bulgaria is part of the conditions for opening the first negotiating cluster, is not directly referred to in the document at all. Instead, the draft report cites the Treaty with Bulgaria and the obligations arising from North Macedonia’s Negotiating Framework.
The amendments also state that there are different interpretations of the historical characteristics of Macedonian society, but wording is also contained according to which linguistic, cultural, and national identity should not affect the accession process, Kanal 5 added.
