A preferential observer status for the Western Balkans, along with participation in EC and EP meetings by countries from the region, has been proposed by German Chancellor Merz in a letter to European leaders. He calls for all chapters to be opened immediately and unconditionally.
However, regarding that, as well as when it comes to the non-paper, signed by Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Austria, proposing gradual integration, VMRO-DPMNE MP Antonijo Miloshoski said on Thursday they were not a substitute for full membership. He presented that position at a debate in Parliament on the geopolitical dimension of enlargement and its implications for the Western Balkans.
Among the participants was also SDSM leader Filipche. The momentum for enlargement must not be lost, he assessed. Filipche also said he was calling on PM Mickoski and the government to make the constitutional changes together while sharing the responsibility for that together with the coalition led by SDSM.
